Academician Norman N. Li was awarded an honorary doctorate by the New Jersey Institute of Technology（NJIT）in May, 2008.
Academician Li, President of NL Chemical Technology, Inc. in Illinois, is best known for his industrial research on membranes for separation and encapsulation and his invention of liquid membranes. He has forty years of distinguished industrial experience and is the recipient of the prestigious Perkin Medal from the Society of Chemical Industry (2000)—the highest honor in the American chemical industry; the Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Congress of Chemical Engineering (2001); and the Founders Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (2006).
