Dr. Wen-Tai Hsu holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining Academia Sinica, he has worked and taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University. He is currently a Fellow at the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research.

He is generally interested in applied microeconomic theory and quantitative analysis, and focuses on topics in international, urban, and regional economics. His research topics include heterogeneous firms in international and regional trade, agglomeration, central place theory, transportation policy, economic growth, income inequality, and land policy. He was awarded the Austin Robinson Memorial Prize for his paper on city size distribution published in the Economic Journal in 2012. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Economic Geography during 2017 to 2021, an associate editor of Academia Economic Papers during 2015 to 2021, and an associate editor of Taiwan Economic Review since 2018.

Dr. Hsu has served as the research fellow of the Institute of Economics since January, 2022.
