Dr. Xiu-An Wu received his Ph.D. degree from National Taiwan University. He had been the postdoctoral research fellow in the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica and previously worked as an assistant professor in the Department of History, National Chung Cheng University.

His research focuses on the study of the historical geography and social history during the Tang and Song dynasties. His doctoral dissertation explored the environmental changes and regional community in the Poyang Lake Basin during the Tang and Song dynasties. It was tried to combine the literature and geological data to investigate the evolution of hydrological environment in Poyang Lake and its surroundings and that of forest vegetation in the entire basin, and then analyzed the changes in land and water transportation routes under the dual influence of the transfer of the national political center and environmental changes. It was also revealed how the local elite families in the Poyang Lake Basin constructed the ancestral origin narrative and their evolution to imperial examination families.

After joining the Institute of History and Philology, Dr. Wu will focus on the study of transportation geography during the Tang and Song dynasties, and pay attention to the long-term evolution of elite families in Southeast China and explore their development course .

Dr. Wu has served as the assistant research fellow of the Institute of History and Philology since August 2021.
