Excellent Academic Environment Fosters Young Scholars Taiwan International Graduate Program to hold the Fifteenth Certificate Conferral Ceremony

Academia Sinica held a certificate conferral ceremony for this year’s graduates of the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) on Monday, December 14th, 2020. This year a total of 46 graduates from nine countries received their TIGP Certificates from Academia Sinica Vice President Dr. Mei-Yin Chou. The ceremony will be conducted in English.

For the graduating students participating in the commencement ceremony today, 19 of them are from India, 14 from Taiwan, 4 from Ethiopia, 2 from Nepal, 2 from Vietnam, 1 from Canada, 1 from Egypt, 1 from France, 1 from Malaysia, and 1 from Pakistan. This year’s attendees include 8 graduates from the Molecular and Cell Biology program; 6 graduates from the Nano Science and Technology program; 5 graduates from the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience program; 4 graduates each from the Chemical Biology and Molecular Biophysics program, the Molecular Science and Technology program, the Molecular Medicine program, and the Biodiversity program; 3 graduates each from the Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences program and the Bioinformatics program; 2 graduates each from the Sustainable Chemical Science and Technology program and the Social Networks and Human-Centered Computing program; 1 graduates each from the Earth System Science Program.

Currently there are 12 Ph.D. programs in TIGP. Including this year’s graduates, a total of 523 students have completed the TIGP program’s rigorous requirements and received TIGP certificates to date. Each year, many students in the programs publish papers in top international scholarly journals and many alumni go on to take up positions in world-renowned institutions.

Launched in 2002, the TIGP program integrates cutting-edge interdisciplinary research topics, first-class facilities, top-notch faculty and the multi-cultural environment available at Academia Sinica into a learning environment where English is the first language. The program currently has 568 students enrolled in twelve Ph.D. programs. Many of the students enrolled in TIGP come from overseas (currently hailing from 41 countries).

TIGP is run by Academia Sinica in collaboration with Taiwan’s top research universities: National Tsing Hua University, National Taiwan University, National Central University, National Chung Hsing University, National Chiao Tung University, National Defense Medical Center, National Yang-Ming University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chengchi University, and Tunghai University. The certificate conferred by Academia Sinica is given in addition to the diploma conferred by the collaborating university.
