Academician Dr. Pui-Yan Kwok has been elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Association announced on November 24. He was elected as a 2020 Fellow of the Biological Sciences Section for his “distinguished contributions to the development of human genomic technologies for assaying genome variation in all forms, and genome discoveries for human disease”. The induction ceremony will take place on Feb. 13, 2021

In addition to Dr. Kwok’s positions at Academia Sinica, he holds a joint appointment as the Henry Bachrach Distinguished Professor at University of California, San Francisco. His research interests include human genetics, genomics, DNA sequence variation, complex trait analysis, pharmacogenetics and biotechnology.

Dr. Kwok’s has made significant contributions to human genetics and genomic research. He develops tools for genetic analysis of whole genomes and applies the tools to elucidate the genetic factors associated with common human traits. Completed projects include studies of genetic susceptibility to psoriasis, narcolepsy, systemic lupus erythematosus, hemorrhagic risk in brain arteriovenous malformations, and sudden cardiac arrest.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science was founded in 1848 and is the world’s largest multidisciplinary scientific society and a leading publisher of cutting-edge research through its Science family of journals.
