Academia Sinica held the 17th certificate conferral ceremony for this year’s graduates of the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) on November 24th, 2022. This year, a total of 50 graduates from thirteen countries received their TIGP Certificates from Academia Sinica President Dr. James C. Liao at the ceremony.

For the graduates participated in the commencement ceremony, 11 of them are from India, 11 from Taiwan, 7 from Malaysia, 5 from Vietnam, 3 from Indonesia, 3 from the Philippines, 2 from Bangladesh, 2 from Ethiopia, 2 from Nigeria, 1 from Austria, 1 Belize, 1 from Israel, and 1 from the United Kingdom.

This year’s attendees include 7 graduates from the Molecular Medicine program and 7 from the Nano Science and Technology program; 6 graduates from the Sustainable Chemical Science and Technology program; 5 graduates from the Biodiversity program, 5 from the Earth System Science Program, and 5 from the Molecular Science and Technology program; 4 graduates from the Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences program; 3 graduates from the Chemical Biology and 3 from Molecular Biophysics program and the Molecular and Cell Biology program; 2 graduates from the Bioinformatics program and 2 from the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience program; 1 graduate from the Social Networks and Human-Centered Computing program.

Currently there are 13 Ph.D. programs in TIGP. Including this year’s graduates, a total of 697 students have completed the TIGP program’s rigorous requirements and received TIGP certificates to date. Each year, many students in the programs publish papers in top international scholarly journals and many alumni go on to take up positions in world-renowned institutions.

Launched in 2002, the TIGP program integrates cutting-edge interdisciplinary research topics, first-class facilities, top-notch faculty and the multi-cultural environment available at Academia Sinica into a learning environment where English is the first language. The program currently has 586 students enrolled in thirteen Ph.D. programs. Many of the students enrolled in TIGP come from overseas (currently hailing from 47 countries).

TIGP is run by Academia Sinica in collaboration with Taiwan’s top research universities: National Tsing Hua University, National Taiwan University, National Central University, National Chung Hsing University, National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University, National Defense Medical Center, National Taiwan Normal University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chengchi University, and Tunghai University. The certificate is conferred by Academia Sinica in addition to the diploma conferred by the collaborating university.
