A research team led by Dr. Ming-Zong Lai at the Institute of Molecular Biology, together with Dr. Shie-Liang Hsieh from Genomic Research Center, discovered a key switch control in the sequential cell death cascade critical for limiting intracellular pathogen replication. Dr. Lai’s team show that caspase-8 inactivation induces pyroptosis in myeloid cells deficient in apoptosis and necroptosis, which is mediated by atypical inflammasome activated by autophagy and cathepsin-B. This study was published in Science Advances.
