Dr. Yi-Jyun Luo received his Ph.D. degree from the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, exploring animal genome evolution in a group of animals called lophotrochozoans. During Dr. Luo’s postdoctoral training at Harvard University, he investigated stem cell regulation in highly regenerative acoel worms. Later, his postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford focused on the evolutionary and symbiosis genomics of marine invertebrates.

Dr. Luo is interested in the evolution and development of body plans, cell types, and genomes. Using next-generation sequencing, single-cell genomics, and imaging, his lab selected several marine species as model systems to study the biodiversity and evolutionary origins of symbiotic organisms. Dr. Luo has been appointed as the Assistant Research Fellow of the Biodiversity Research Center since June, 2022.
