Academia Sinica held a certificate conferral ceremony for this year's graduates of the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) on December 21, 2010. This year there are a total of seven graduates who received the TIGP Certificate from Academia Sinica President Chi-Huey Wong at the ceremony.
This year's seven graduates are: Dr. Carol Peiyin Wu from the Chemical Biological and Molecular Biophysics Program, who comes from the United States; Dr. Antonio M. Basilio from the Nano Science and Technology Program, who comes from the Philippines; Dr. Venugopal Rajanbabu from the Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences Program, who comes from India; and Dr. Chi-Chih Kang from the Molecular Science and Technology Program, Dr. Ching-Wen Ho from the Chemical Biological and Molecular Biophysics Program, Dr. Richard Chang from the Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing Program and Dr. Chiung-Swey Chang from the Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences Program, who all come from Taiwan.
To date, including this year's graduates, a total of 26 students have completed the TIGP program's rigorous requirements and received TIGP certificates. Each year, many students in the programs publish papers in top international scholarly journals and many alumni go on to take up positions in world-renowned institutions such as Cornell University, the Max-Planck Institute and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Launched in 2002, the TIGP program integrates first-class facilities and top-notch faculty available at Academia Sinica into a learning environment where English is the first language. The program currently has 340 students enrolled in nine Ph.D. programs. Many of the students enrolled in the TIGP come from overseas (currently from 34 countries). The TIGP is run by Academia Sinica in collaboration with Taiwan's top research universities. The certificate conferred by the Academy is given in addition to the diploma conferred by the collaborating university.
