Dr. Pang-Hsin Ting, Academician of Academia Sinica, will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Humanities for his distinguished academic achievements and standing in the field of Chinese linguistics, the Hong Kong Institute of Education announced yesterday. A ceremony will be held on December 2, 2011.

Dr. Ting is a renowned Chinese linguist specializing in the study of the history and dialects of Chinese languages. His research has focused on the change and development of Chinese phonology, dialects and colloquial languages. Dr. Ting was elected as Academician in 1986. He became Honorary Member of the Linguistic Society of America in 2000.
