Dr. Jui-Chung Allen Li, Assistant Research Fellow of the Institute of European and American Studies, Academia Sinica, was honored with the 2008 Young Scholar Award by the Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship. Founded in 1994 by Dr. Yuan-Tseh Lee, former President of Academia Sinica, the Foundation aims to advance academic research in Taiwan by supporting research institutions to recruit outstanding scholars from overseas.
Dr. Li's application was recommended by the Institute of European and American Studies, and endorsed by Academia Sinica. He is the first recipient of the award in the humanities and social sciences since its commencement. Prior to his return to Taiwan, Dr. Li was an Associate Social Scientist at the RAND Corporation, a major think tank headquartered in California, and the Associate Director of the RAND Population Research Center. His areas of research include sociology of the family, demography, social psychology, social inequality, public policy, and contemporary American society. While at Academia Sinica, he has not only continued his research on the population and family issues in European and American societies, but has also been actively involved in the Panel Study of Family Dynamics and the Taiwan Youth Project, working with colleagues in the Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences as well as the Institute of Sociology.
