Academician Liang-Shih Fan, Distinguished University Professor and C. John Easton Professor in Engineering at The Ohio State University, was inducted into the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) as the only Foreign Fellow this year on November 22, 2013. He also received the R.H. Wilhelm Award in Chemical Reaction Engineering of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers at its annual meeting on November 3, 2013. He was cited “for sustained and lasting contributions to multiphase reaction engineering and for pioneering work on groundbreaking clean-energy technologies”. Academician Fan has invented a family of advanced technologies, called chemical looping technologies that can efficiently convert carbonaceous material to electricity, hydrogen, syngas, liquid fuels and chemicals while simultaneously capturing carbon dioxide. These technologies are currently at the commercial demonstration stage. He is also an inventor of commercially employed Electrical Capacitance Volume Tomography for 3-dimensional imaging of multiphase flow reactors.
