Academician Lee C. Teng passed away in the United States on June 24, 2022. He was 97 years old.

Academician Lee C. Teng Has Passed Away

Dr. Teng was a renowned scientist in applied physics. After obtaining his doctorate from the University of Chicago in 1951, he worked at the Argonne National Laboratory and the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and led research and development of large particle accelerator facilities. Dr. Teng also taught at the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin.

Dr. Teng participated in the planning and establishment of the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center since 1983, which laid an important foundation for the development of synchrotron accelerator research in Taiwan. In 2007, Dr. Teng became the first Chinese scientist to receive the Robert R. Wilson Prize for his outstanding contribution to modern particle accelerator research. Dr. Teng was elected Academia Sinica Academician in 1966.
