Academia Sinica Institute of Physics Research Fellow Chii-Dong Chen’s team has developed a silicon nanowire field-effect transistor (SiNW-FET), a technology that allowed companies at the National Biotechnology Research Park to develop the world’s first COVID-19 Virus Detecting Microchip, which provides rapid screening in only three minutes! The device has been granted emergency use authorization (EUA) by the Food and Drug Administration last December (2021). Its support of rapid testing at airports and other crowded areas provides a great advantage for pandemic prevention workers.
