Dr. Ming-Jung Liu of the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Center has recently been selected as a European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) Global Investigator.
The Global Investigator Network program, launched in 2019, aims to support junior life scientists within their first six years of setting up their labs in India, Singapore, Chile and Taiwan to create a network of young group leaders and foster connections with the life science community in Europe. Each year, EMBO selects promising group leaders as Global Investigators who receive financial funding for networking, collaboration, and career-enhancing training activities.
Dr. Ming-Jung Liu’s research team employs plants and plant viruses as model systems to elucidate the mechanistic basis underlying plant defense response and virus pathogenesis. They explore novel plant microproteins that trigger plant defense and also novel viral factors that cause diseases in host plants. By deciphering interaction between host plant and plant virus from the fundamental perspective, Dr. Liu hopes to provide insight into the development of plant defensive strategies to confer pathogen resistance.
About being selected as the EMBO Global Investigator, Dr. Liu said: “I am extremely grateful for the recognition of my work and look forward to interacting and collaborating with the best international researchers.
