Recipients of 2018 Junior Researcher Award Announced

On June 14, an award ceremony was hosted by President James C. Liao for this year’s winners.

There are 4 winners in each field, a total of 12 awardees from 3 fields this year. The recipients each received a certificate, a cash prize of NT$200,000 and NT$300,000 for research expenditures. Two among the awardees are doing multidisciplinary research.

The awards are given in three main categories and this year a total of 93 applications were received-41 from the Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, 13 from the Division of Life Sciences, 39 from the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences. All submissions underwent a stringent review procedure including pre-screening, initial review, 2nd stage review, and a final review.

There are very few awards available on a national level in Taiwan that recognize scholars early in their careers. Since 1996, Academia Sinica has been honoring junior scholars who have published research papers that make a lasting impact in their research fields with the Academia Sinica Research Awards for Junior Investigators in Taiwan. Many of the young academics who previously received the award have subsequently become outstanding scholars in Taiwan.

The recipients of the 2018 Academia Sinica Research Award for Junior Research Investigators, by division, are (in alphabetical order):
