Academia Sinica Academician Chih-Yuan Lu was selected (in November) as the 2024 George E. Pake Prize recipient by the American Physical Society (APS) in recognition of his innovations and contributions in semiconductor device physics and his outstanding leadership in Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) manufacturing technology as well as in the integrated circuit industry.

Dr. Lu’s research focus includes semiconductor technology, integrated circuit engineering, and applied physics. His team accomplished independent development and mass production of DRAM, which enabled the production of 8-inch wafers in Taiwan, playing a crucial role in building the semiconductor memory industry.

Dr. Lu is Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, USA (2017), Academia Sinica Academician (2018), and Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS, 2020). He has also received numerous honors, including the Executive Yuan Award for Outstanding Science and Technology Contribution (1993), the IEEE Third Millennium Medal (2000), the ROC Presidential Science Prize (2013), and the TWAS Prize in Engineering Sciences (2014). He currently serves as President of Macronix International Co., Ltd. and as Chairman of Ardentec Corporation.

Lauded as one of the highest honors in industry and in applied physics, the George E. Pake Prize is awarded biennially to recognize physicists who demonstrate distinguished leadership in industry and outstanding academic work.
