Academia Sinica’s Ground-breaking Ceremony for New Faculty Housing

A ground-breaking ceremony to launch the construction of new housing for Academia Sinica researchers and visiting scholars took place on April 24, 2010 at the construction site opposite the main gate of Academia Sinica.

The new, seven-floor building will add about 42 units to the housing available to faculty members in the vicinity of Academia Sinica. It is hoped that the building will help to accommodate the rising number of researchers at the institution and also help recruit more top international researchers to join the Academy.

The location of the new building will be near the main gate of Academia Sinica on Academia Road offering tenants accommodation close to their laboratories and offices.

Owing to off-site prefabrication speeding up the construction process, the project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010 and will be ready for habitation by January 2011. The building contractor is Ruentex Group. The project is funded by Academia Sinica and donations from a number of Taiwanese enterprises. The building surface will be coated with beige bricks, with tiers of metal in wood texture atop of the bricks on parts of the surface. The complex will cover 5354.85 square meters, or 1620 pings in total.
