Dr. Chien-Jen Chen, Vice President of Academia Sinica, was awarded the 2010 First Class Science Profession Medal conferred by the National Science Council of the Executive Yuan on February 20, 2012. Dr. Chen launched a range of important projects during his term of service at the National Science Council, including several National Science and Technology Programs and the revision of various laws and regulations on biotechnology. He also worked hard to strengthen international collaborative efforts in science and technology as well as promote the development of the biotech and new pharmaceuticals industry in Taiwan.

        The Science Profession Medal is awarded to individuals who have made enormous contributions to the planning or implementation of research and development in science, thereby raising science and technology standards in Taiwan.
