In order to facilitate contact with former employees and friends of Academia Sinica, and promote cooperation among academia, government, and industry, a new association called the "Friends of Academia Sinica Association" (FASA) was established on February 17, 2011. Academician Cheng-Wen Wu was elected the first president.
Over the 83 years since its establishment, tens of thousands of people have worked at Academia Sinica. They are now spreading widely throughout Taiwan and the world, providing their services in various specializations to many different organizations in a large range of capacities. In order to strengthen friendship and promote cooperation, starting in February 2010, Academician Wu and 31 other advocators started preparations for the establishment of an association to bring people with special connections to Academia Sinica together.
Dr. Cheng-Wen Wu, a veteran in organization, was elected the first president. Both the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at Academia Sinica and the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) in Taiwan were established by him. Wu said the new association will provide an excellent opportunity to gather together all the affection and good-will of friends and ex-employees of Academia Sinica. He said that he hopes that in the future, the association will grow to provide a strong base of support to Academia Sinica in a way similar to the alumni associations of many universities around the world.
