Dr. Chiu-yu Tseng, Director of the Institute of Linguistics at Academia Sinica was selected to receive the 2012 Antonio Zampolli Prize. As a linguist and speech scientist, she was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the advancement of language resources and language technology evaluation within human language technologies in the capacity of the Convener of the Oriental Chapter of the International Committee for Coordination and Standardization of Speech Databases. The award ceremony will be held on May 25 at the the 8th biennial international conference on Language Resources and Evaluation (LREC 2012, May 21-26) at ICEC (Istanbul Lütfi Kirdar Convention & Exhibition Centre, Gümüş Cd No: 4 Harbiye 34267 Istanbul, Turkey). Dr. Tseng will give a 20-min speech entitled “Oriental COCOSDA: Its progress during the past 14 years” with her co-recipients Professor Shuichi Itahashi, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan and Professor Satoshi Nakamura, Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NiCT), Japan.
The Antonio Zampolli Prize was created in 2004 by the European Language Resources Association (ELRA) Board in commemoration of its first president, Professor Antonio Zampolli, a pioneer and visionary scientist who was internationally recognized in the field of Computational Linguistics and Human Language Technologies (HLT). The Prize is awarded to individuals whose work lies within the areas of Language Resources and Language Technology Evaluation with acknowledged outstanding contributions to their advancements. The prize is 12,000€. The recipient(s) will also receive a certificate, recognition in the ELRA newsletter and will be featured on ELRA’s website.
The recipients of the 2012 Prize are Shuichi Itahashi, Chiu-yu Tseng and Sotoshi Nakamura for the Oriental COCOSDA and Charles Fillmore and John Baker for Framenet.
