Academician Chun-Yen Chang received the Nikkei Asia Prize in the category of science, technology and innovation. The selection committee praised Dr. Chang as a pioneer in the research of semiconductors, and his achievements was leading the high tech development in Asia, and has trained a number of talented individuals in semiconductor industry.
The prizes have been awarded annually since 1996 by Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan's leading business daily, to individuals or institutions that have made significant contributions to the development of Asia and improvements in the region's standard of living.
Academician Chun-Yen Chang was the former president of National Chiao Tung University. He established the first semiconductor research center in 1964 and received 70 patents in category of technology. He receives many awards such as Foreign Associate of National Academy of Engineering(2000), Fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(1988), Academician of Academia Sinica(1996), W.Y. Pan Foundation Award for Distinguished Research(1997), National Chair Professor, Ministry of Education, Taiwan(1997-2000, 2000-2003, 2003), and IEEE Third Millennium Medals.
