Academician Chang-Chien Hwang Passed Away in Taipei at Age 91
 

 Academician Chang-Chien Hwang of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences passed away in Taipei on December 29, 2009 at age 91.

Academician Chang-Chien Hwang was a renowned historian and research fellow at the Institute of History and Philology at Academia Sinica.  Academician Hwang specialized in research on the Ming Qing Archives.  He was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Academic Arts Award of the Ministry of Education and Chia Hsin Excellent Academic Works Award.  Dr. Hwang was elected as an Academician in 1982.

Academician Hwang was born in 1919.  He graduated from the Department of History at National Central University in 1943.  He engaged in research at the Institute of History and Philology for most of his academic career.  He also was a research professor at the National Science Council.
