Academician Wen-Hsiung Li has been selected for the 2016-2017 Taiwan Rotary Charity Award. Dr. Li specializes in Evolutionary Biology, Genetics and Genomics. He began his research on the evolution of DNA sequences through mathematical modeling in early 1980s, which made him a pioneer in the field. He has made highly significantly contributions not only to molecular evolution but also to genomic evolution. Dr. Li has been awarded numerous prestigious titles and prizes, such as George Beadle Professor and James D. Watson Professor by the University of Chicago, the Mendel Medal by the UK Genetics Society (2009) and the highly prestigious honor in the field of genetics and evolution--- Balzan Prize (2003). In addition to research, Dr. Li has devoted himself to professional activities such as serving as the president of professional associations and journal editorial boards. He has also contributed to the education of college students and the training of young scientists. In appreciation of distinguished achievements in education, culture, research and invention and important contributions to the society and public welfare, the Taiwan Rotary Charity Award confers the awardee a medal and a prize of NTD1,000,000.
