A special exhibition entitled “To Digital Class with Love” will be held at the Academia Sinica Digital Center Exhibition Hall (2F, Humanities and Social Sciences Building) starting April 8, 2013. The exhibition will celebrate the opening of the Academia Sinica Digital Center.
The Academia Sinica Digital Center has been inaugurated to continue the work of the “Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program (TELDAP)” that ended in 2012. TELDAP (2008-2012) and the earlier “Digital Archives National Science and Technology Plan” (2002-2007) were national projects established by the Taiwan government for the long-term resource integration and inter-institution coordination of the development, maintenance and operation of digital technologies including digital archiving and digital learning. The two national projects were both presided over by the Academia Sinica Vice President in Humanities and Social Sciences.
The new Academia Sinica Digital Center that officially opened on February 1, will take over digital archiving at Academia Sinica and coordinate the implementation of digital archives management across all the Academia Sinica institutes and centers. It will also support the NSC’s three-year “Digital Achievements Sustainable Maintenance and Operation Plan” to ensure the smooth wrap up and hand over of the larger national projects.
The special exhibition showcases the achievements of the TELDAP program and is divided into six themes: “Geography”, “Natural Sciences and Humanities”, “Languages and Art Appreciation”, “Arts”, “Integrative Activities”, and “Self Study” (Film Gallery).
The Geography section takes visitors to different cities (Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, etc.) to rediscover the charm of Taiwan over the last century. The Natural Sciences and Humanities section explores the Digital e-Cloud Museum of Academia Sinica, and includes digitalization of exhibits from the National Treasure Museum and the Taiwan Shells Museum. The Languages and Art Appreciation section displays the poems of well-known poet and writer Kwang-Chung Yu and some pieces from the “Exhibition of Cyber Island, Taiwan Photography Awards”. The Arts presents the Creative Comic Collection series. The Integrative Activities section provides students’ favorite digital archives games and knowledge of various species in Taiwan’s wetlands, and the Self-Study section features selected films including old-time movies produced by the Chinese Taipei Film Archive, films on bugs produced by National Taiwan University, and a series on national treasures produced by the National Palace Museum.
