Dr. Din Ping Tsai elected as 2016 Fellow of AAAS
 

  Director of the Research Center for Applied Sciences, Distinguished Research Fellow Dr. Din Ping Tsai has been elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Association announced on November 22. He was elected as a 2016 Fellow of the Physics Section for his “distinguished contributions in nano optics and nanophotonics”.
  This year, the American Association for the Advancement of Science announced a total of 391 new Fellows in 24 sections. The full list will be announced in the November 25 issue of Science magazine. The new Fellows will be invited to attend the Association’s annual conference to be held in Boston, USA, on February 18, 2017, and will be awarded a certificate and a gold and blue (representing science and engineering, respectively) rosette pin.
  Dr. Tsai’s research interests include nano photonics, near-field optics, plasmonics, meta-materials, bio-photonics and their applications. In addition to his positions at Academia Sinica, Dr. Tsai holds a joint appointment as a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Physics at National Taiwan University. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Optical Society of America (OSA), the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE), and the Electro Magnetics Academy (EMA).
  Dr. Tsai is currently an editorial board member of three international journals, and often serves as a reviewer of international journals. His achievements in basic research and application development have included industrial upgrading and national social development. He has been awarded several patents, in USA, Japan, Canada, Germany and Taiwan.
  The American Association for the Advancement of Science was founded in 1848 and is the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the journal Science as well as Science Translational Medicine, Science Signaling, a digital, open-access journal, Science Advances, Science Immunology, and Science Robotics. It includes nearly 250 affiliated societies and academies of sciences serving 10 million people. Beginning in 1874, the Association has elected Fellows each year to recognize members for their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications. The association has over 120,000 members in all.
