Academia Sinica and Peking University recently signed an agreement that aims to promote a cooperative relationship between the two institutions. The General Collaborative Agreement, signed by Academia Sinica President Chi-huey Wong and Peking University President Qifeng Zhou in a ceremony at Academia Sinica on May 10, 2011, plans to promote personnel exchanges, joint seminars and symposia, and joint research projects of mutual interests and concerns.

Dr. Zhou led a large delegation to visit Academia Sinica to sign the agreement. During their stay in Taiwan, members of the delegation are expected to visit National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Central University, National Sun Yat-sen University, and Tunghai University.

Peking University, founded in 1898, is one of the most well–known universities in China. Originally named Imperial University of Peking, it changed its name to Peking University in 1912. The university has played an essential role in the development of modern China, and was the center of the New Culture Movement and the origin of the May Fourth Movement.
