Paxillin Facilitates Timely Neurite Initiation on Soft-substrate Environments by Interacting with the Endocytic Machinery

The research team of Dr. Pei-Lin Cheng, Assistant Research Fellow in Institute of Molecular Biology, Academia Sinica, specifically designed a  brain-mimicking in vitro system, and discovered that stiffness of a cellular environment strongly impacts cellular behavior. The team also provided mechanistic insight linking stiffness with the adhesion and endocytosis machineries, opening a new avenue to study of how neurons adjust gene expression to membrane mechanics in different physical environments. These findings were recently published in elife.
