Applications for the 2012 First Session of the Postdoctoral Fellows Program Being Accepted from August 1 to September 1, 2011

Applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships at Academia Sinica for the First Session of 2012 are now being accepted. Starting from August 1, 2011, all applications are to be processed on-line (http://db3n2u.sinica.edu.tw/~textdb/program). It is not necessary to send hard copies of application materials. All applications must be submitted to the Academic Affairs Office (AAO) by sponsoring principal investigators (PIs) before the deadline. Appointment of postdoctoral fellows for this session commences on January 1, 2012.

Under this program there are two types of fellows: Academia Sinica (Distinguished) Postdoctoral Fellows and (Regular) Postdoctoral Fellows. When applying, applicants in the Divisions of Mathematical and Physical Sciences or Life Sciences need to choose the category of fellows they wish to apply for. Both categories must be chosen if applicants wish to compete for two kinds of fellows at the same time.

If an applicant has not yet received the doctoral degree, the applicant’s thesis supervisor must provide a letter confirming that the applicant is expected to receive the PhD diploma before the appointment starts. In addition, three letters of recommendation must be received by the AAO before the September 1 deadline.

For applications for Academia Sinica (Distinguished) Postdoctoral Fellows in the Divisions of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and Life Sciences or for Postdoctoral Fellows in the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, applicants are required to submit a proposal specifying the aim, significance, background, methodology and expected achievement of their research project. Application proposals lacking consideration of these issues will be adversely affected.

A PI may sponsor as many postdoctoral fellows as he or she wishes. However, for PIs in Divisions of Mathematics and Physical Sciences and Life Sciences, each project is limited to one applicant only. In addition, projects which have been approved for one postdoctoral fellow in the last session may not apply for another applicant in this session.

Applicants whose affiliation is not with the Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences may also apply under this Division if their research involves mathematical or scientific content.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship is a full-time research position at Academia Sinica. During the term of appointment, the postdoctoral fellow shall comply with the regulations stipulated by the Academia Sinica Personnel Office (please refer to http://hro.sinica.edu.tw/cbemployee/cbemployee.html) and also the requirements and instructions of his/her sponsoring principal investigator and host institute. In addition, the postdoctoral fellow is required to sign a work contract and a declaration which states that he/she is not the spouse or relative by blood or marriage of the heads of the employing organization, institute and the sponsoring PI /co-PI.

For more information, please contact Dr. Shu-ling Song at AAO, SSL53@gate.sinica.edu.tw, Tel. 02-2789-8051, or visit the website: http://aao.sinica.edu.tw/english/pro_pfp.php
