Dr. Chenming Hu and Dr. Pang-Hsin Ting, both Academicians of Academia Sinica, have received the 6th NTU Distinguished Alumni Award along with four other recipients of the award. Dr. Hu and Dr. Ting will also serve as speakers for the “My Road to Learning” lectures to be delivered at NTU’s upcoming Forum on General Education.
Dr. Hu is TSMC Distinguished Professor in Microelectronics at the University of California, Berkeley and specializes in the applied physical sciences and engineering sciences. He has published hundreds of articles and holds more than 100 patents. He was elected Academician of Academia Sinica in 2004. In March 2011 he received the University Research Award by the US Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).
Dr. Ting is a renowned Chinese linguist who has written extensively on the change and development of Chinese phonology, dialects and colloquial languages. He has also previously served as the Director of the Institute of History and Philology at Academia Sinica and the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Science of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He was elected Academician in 1986 and became honorary member of the Linguistic Society of America in 2000.
