Academician Man-Chiang Niu passes away on November 8, 2007, in Beijing at the age of 95. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 16, in Babaoshan Funeral Home in Beijing.
Academician Niu graduated from Stanford University in USA with a doctoral degree in 1946. He had done research work and taught at Stanford University, Rockefeller Medical Institute (later Rockefeller University) and Temple University. His research paper on RNA induction in 1953 was spotlighted in the biological area. He was also the founder of the Theory of Epigene, successfully creating a kind of genetically modified corn, which, for the high nutritional and economic value, is believed to a good choice for poverty-alleviation projects in China.
Academician Niu was a Professor Emeritus of Temple University in USA, a doctoral advisor of the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing and an Academician of the Academia Sinica in Taiwan. He had been honored the Guggenhiem Award in 1954 and the Lillie Award in 1957.
