The European Physical Society Accelerator Group (EPS-AG) announced on February 22 that Academician Alex Chao will be conferred the European Physical Society 2008 Accelerator Achievement Prize during the European Particle Accelerator Conference (EPAC) to be held in June this year.
Academician Chao is bestowed this prestigious prize for his “many ground-breaking and fundamental contributions to accelerator physics, and for the direct or indirect contribution to the design and performance of almost every major accelerator project, built or not built, over the past 30 years,” according to EPS-AG.
The European Physical Society (EPS), formed in 1968, is a nonprofit association whose purpose is to promote physics and physicists in Europe. It provides an international forum to discuss science and policy issues of interest to its members.
The EPS Accelerator Group was formed in 1988. The aim of the Group is to promote research and development of accelerators, storage rings and similar devices as well as their applications. The EPS-AG European Accelerator Prizes have been awarded since 1994. The Prizes are awarded on a biannual basis during the EPAC conferences.
