Hsiao Hsi Yuan was founded in 1913. Its technical virtuosity and authentic performance style guaranteed the group's rise from the countryside into the city, from the streets into theaters and academy halls, and from Taiwan onto the international scene. It was awarded the operatic arts prize in the Ministry of Education's first annual Living Heritage awards in 1985. A writer from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said they were "masters of a delicate art." The work of “Battle between Xue Rengui and Yeon Gaesomun” will be presented this time in Academia Sinica.
