Academia Sinica hold a certificate conferral ceremony for this year’s graduates of the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) on Thursday, December 3, 2015 in the 2nd Conference Room, 3F, Building for Humanities and Social Sciences, Academia Sinica. This year a total of 44 graduates from ten countries receive the TIGP Certificate from Academia Sinica Vice President and TIGP Director Dr. Yu Wang.
Twenty-six of this year’s graduating students are from Taiwan, 8 from India, 2 from Indonesia, 2 from Malaysia, 1 from Germany, 1 from Egypt, 1 from Iraq, 1 from Nepal, 1 from Pakistan, and 1 from the Philippines.
Currently there are 12 Ph.D. programs in TIGP. This year there are 9 graduates from the Nano Science and Technology program, 7 graduates each from the Molecular Science and Technology, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Molecular Medicine programs, 6 graduates each from the Chemical Biology and Molecular Biophysics and the Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences, and 2 graduates from the Bioinformatics program.
Including this year’s graduates, a total of 216 students have completed the TIGP program’s rigorous requirements and received TIGP certificates to date. Each year, many students in the programs publish papers in top international scholarly journals and many alumni go on to take up positions in world-renowned institutions.
Launched in 2002, the TIGP program integrated cutting-edge interdisciplinary research topics, first-class facilities, top-notch faculty and the multi-cultural environment available at Academia Sinica into a learning environment where English is the first language. The program currently has 504 students enrolled in twelve Ph.D. programs. Many of the students enrolled in TIGP come from overseas (currently hailing from 45 countries). TIGP is run by Academia Sinica in collaboration with Taiwan’s top research universities: National Tsing Hua University, National Taiwan University, National Central University, National Chung Hsing University, National Chiao Tung University, National Defense Medical Center, National Yang-Ming University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Cheng Kung University and National Chengchi University. The certificate conferred by the Academy is given in addition to the diploma conferred by the collaborating university.
