Academia Sinica held a certificate conferral ceremony for this year’s graduates of the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) on Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 in the 2nd Conference Room, 3F, Building for Humanities and Social Sciences, Academia Sinica. This year a total of 57 graduates from twelve countries will receive the TIGP Certificate from President James. C. Liao and they will also receive an engraved glass keepsake from Vice President and TIGP Director Mei-Yin Chou. The ceremony will be conducted in English. Members of the media are welcome to attend.
Thirty-one of this year’s graduating students are from Taiwan, 9 from India, 4 from the Philippines, 2 from Egypt, 2 from Malaysia, 2 from Mongolia, 2 from Vietnam, 1 from Ethiopia, 1 from Hong Kong (China), 1 from Indonesia, 1 from Pakistan, and 1 from the United States.
Currently there are 12 Ph.D. programs in TIGP. This year there are 15 graduates from the Nano Science and Technology program, 9 graduates from the Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences program, 7 graduates each from the Molecular Science and Technology, and Molecular and Cell Biology programs, 6 graduates from the Bioinformatics program, 5 graduates from the Molecular Medicine program, and 4 graduates each from the Chemical Biology and Molecular Biophysics, and Earth System Science programs.

Each year, many students in the programs publish papers in top international scholarly journals and many alumni go on to take up positions in world-renowned institutions.
Launched in 2002, the TIGP program integrates cutting-edge interdisciplinary research topics, first-class facilities, top-notch faculty and the multi-cultural environment available at Academia Sinica into a learning environment where English is the first language. The program currently has 537 students enrolled in twelve Ph.D. programs. Many of the students enrolled in TIGP come from overseas (currently hailing from 44 countries). TIGP is run by Academia Sinica in collaboration with Taiwan’s top research universities: National Tsing Hua University, National Taiwan University, National Central University, National Chung Hsing University, National Chiao Tung University, National Defense Medical Center, National Yang-Ming University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Cheng Kung University and National Chengchi University. The certificate conferred by the Academy is given in addition to the diploma conferred by the collaborating university.
