The Christian Mountain Children’s Home Choir was established in 1998 when Reverend David Kou began to train the children using Italian bel canto vocal techniques. At its inception the choir toured in Taiwan, debuting in many aboriginal churches. In 1999, the choir went abroad to perform in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Since then, it has been performing in other cities of the United States as well as in Canada, Southeast Asia and Norway. The choir is also often invited to perform at prestigious national celebrations in Taiwan. In 2002, the Christian Mountain Children’s Home Choir received high acclaim from the conductor of the world-famous Vienna Boys’ Choir when these two choirs performed successively at a Kaohsiung Medical University benefit concert.
The performance repertoire of the Christian Mountain Children’s Home Choir can be roughly divided into three parts: 1) Divinity songs 2) Folk songs 3) Gospel songs. The children of the choir, with their distinctly beautiful voices, endeavor to share with the audience their ultimate message of love and hope.
