On September 9th, the Ministry of Education announced the recipients of the 13th National Professorship and the 53rd Academic Award. Seven researchers at Academia Sinica were among the awardees.

Academician Chao-Cheng Mai was awarded a National Professorship.

Recipients of the Academic Award were: Research Fellow Angela Ki-Che Leung, Research Fellow and Executive Director Center of Institution and Behavior Studies Kong-Pin Chen, Research Fellow and Director of the Institute of Economics, Shin-Kun Peng, Distinguished Research Fellow Carmay Lim, Distinguished Research Fellow Sue Lin-Chao, and Distinguished Research Fellow and Director of the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation Ming-Syan Chen.

This marks the second time Dr. Mai has been made as a National Professor, as he also received the award at the 8th National Professorship Award five years ago. Ordinarily, the term of the National Professorship is three years, but on receiving the award for a second time Dr. Mai became eligible for lifetime National Professorship. He will receive an annual stipend of NT$1 million from the Ministry of Education for 3 years.

Each of the Academic Award recipients will receive NT$600,000 and a certificate.

Among the awardees, Dr. Leung of the Institute of History and Philology received the award in the category of Liberal Arts. Dr. Chen of the Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences; and Dr. Peng, Director of the Institute of Economics received the award in the category of Social Science. Dr. Lim of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Dr. Lin-Chao of the Institute of Molecular Biology received the award in the category of Biology and Medical Agricultural Science.; and Dr. Chen Director of the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation received the award in the category of Engineering and Applied Science.
