Dr. Ch’i-Ch’ing Hsiao, Academician of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, died on November 11, 2012 at age 76. Dr. Hsiao was an internationally acclaimed historian and expert on the history of the Mongols and the Yuan Dynasty. He was author of a range of scholarly works and recipient of many awards including the 1995 Golden Award (for books in the humanities) and the 1997-1999 Outstanding Research Award from the National Science Council. He was recognized as a National Research Elite in 1999 by Academia Sinica and was elected as Academician in 2000.
Dr. Hsiao received his B.A. in History from National Taiwan University in 1959 and his MA and Ph.D. in 1965 and 1969 respectively, both from Harvard University. He taught at St. Cloud State University (Minnesota, U.S.A.), National Taiwan University, National University of Singapore, National Tsinghua University, and Nankai University in Tianjin. Beginning in 2001, he was appointed as an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Institute of History & Philology, Academia Sinica.
Dr. Hsiao’s funeral ceremony will be held at the Taipei City Second Funeral Parlor (in the Jing Yang Hall) located on Hsin-Hai Road at 13:30 on Friday, November 30, 2012.
