Wang Dahong, Wang Qiuhua, and Han Baode are considered pioneering architects of postwar Taiwan, whose works collectively represent the diverse and distinct character of modern Taiwanese architecture. Their designs and blueprints faithfully record their creative processes, and are in and of themselves important historical materials for understanding the development of Taiwanese architecture as well as the genius of important architects. Since 2007, National Taiwan Museum has initiated a project on collecting and archiving the blueprints of important postwar Taiwanese architecture, and it has accumulated over five thousand entries, which are now included in a digitalized databank of postwar Taiwanese architecture. It is an important project for both National Taiwan Museum and the world of architecture. From this databank, scholars Xu Mingsong and Wang Chunxiong selected thirty buildings that represent the finest architecture of postwar Taiwan and discussed their significances in Rustic and Poetic: First Generation Architecture of Postwar Taiwan (Taibei: Muma wenhua, 2009). The Institute of European and American Studies (IEAS) Library is listed among the thirty selected buildings, and is the only Academia Sinica building that is bestowed with this honor.
The IEAS Library was the former Center for American Studies, which is an early work of architect Wang Qiuhua. It is also an example of outstanding architecture of the 1970s Taiwan.
