The book Autobiography at Eighty: A Lone Ranger of Formosan Languages written by Academician Paul Jen-kuei Li has been published by the Institute of Modern History. The author was brought up in a poor peasant family in Taiwan, yet he still received the education in high schools and college, and then he went to the United States and received his Master degree and PhD. He ever taught in two high schools and several universities in Taiwan, and worked at the Academia Sinica for a quarter-century before retirement. This book introduces the stories of his life, such as his family background, his childhood, his school years in Taiwan and the United States, the years of his teaching and doing research and his lifetime engagement with the studies of Formosan languages. He also recalls in this book his academic achievements and honors, personal crises and the teachers and colleagues who had influence his career greatly. Readers can also have a glimpse on his family life from the book.
