Applications for the 2014 Thematic Research Program will be accepted from August 24th to October 31st, 2012. All applications are processed on-line through the Academic On-Line Service System. Applicants should submit application documents together with an official document issued by the host Institute (Research Center) to the Academic Affairs Office by November 5th, 2012.
The 1st category grants are for unsolicited proposals for integrated research projects. Priority will be given to innovative integrated research projects that are interdisciplinary and span across a range of fields and subjects.
The 2nd category grants are for solicited research projects related to national priority research themes. PIs must have participated in the symposiums held on 7/9 or 7/31, and the proposed project should be preapproved by the Review Committee; eligible candidates will then be able to apply for the grant via the on-line system.
Interdisciplinary projects will receive priority in considerations for funding. Projects involving several investigators will also be favorably considered in order to promote innovative interdisciplinary collaboration.
The 1st category grants will include Regional Studies for Humanities and Social Sciences from 2014.
The final funding decisions on the applications will be announced in the middle of 2013, and projects shall commence on January 1st, 2014. Non-AS faculty participants of the project should sign the Agreement before the project starts.
Applicants can carry out a maximum of 2 projects funded by the Thematic Research Programs, Sustainability Science Research Programs, Academia Sinica Investigator Award, and Career Development Award at Academia Sinica from 2014 to 2016. At least 1/3 of sub-project principal investigators in each application should be full-time employees of Academia Sinica. To facilitate close academic cooperation between AS research fellows and the universities joining the Degree Program, faculty members from local universities collaborating with the Academia Sinica Degree Program (these must be at the level of Assistant Professor or above and hold joint appointment with Academia Sinica) may act as project directors, in accordance with the faculty list provided by the Executive Committee of the Academia Sinica Degree Program.
