In order to enhance the capability of tackling the issues of climate change and flood disaster, Academia Sinica, representing Taiwan institutions, signed the membership agreement of Foundation Delta Alliance International on September 23, 2014, and became its member officially.
Academia Sinica will establish a partnership with local universities to address the sustainability issues of four major domestic river delta regions in Taiwan. Currently National Ilan University, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology and Tunghai University have joined the projects as partners. Some of the important areas of cooperation include reducing the impact of natural disasters, recovery and rehabilitation from such disasters, food security, aging population health and disease transmission caused from climate change, and sustainability science related issues. Through the network of Delta Alliance, Academia Sinica will be able to share knowledge and experience of Taiwan delta regions, and work together with other international members and environmental organizations.
Based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Foundation Delta Alliance International is an international knowledge-driven network organization founded in 2009. The objective of Delta Alliance is to strengthen the resilience of the world's deltas, to reduce the loss caused by natural disasters, and to help to further achieve sustainable development.
