\nIn the experiment of relativistic heavy ion collisions (HIC), strong magnetic and vortical fields are produced, which make it an ideal test ground for studying the anomalous transport phenomena in connection to various quantum effects such as the chiral anomaly and spin-orbit interaction. Motivated by recent measurements of the spin polarization and alignments, many novel transport theories and models have been developed to explore dynamical spin polarization of quark gluons plasmas generated in HIC. Among them, the quantum kinetic theory (QKT) is one of microscopic theories that has a direct connection to the underlying quantum field theory. In this colloquium, I will review some of the important findings and unsettled issues for the spin transport in HIC and related studies by QKT.<\/p>\n
