本院遴選動物研究所所長

本院動物研究所遴選動物學領域之傑出學者擔任所長乙職，第一次任期為三年，得連任一次，卸任後仍為動物所之研究員。

候選人之資格必須具博士學位，在動物學方面有傑出成就，有能力執行大型動物學或相關領域之研究計畫，且具優秀之行政、規劃及領導能力。所長之職責為推動及協調所裡多樣的研究活動以確保達到最大的整合及合作效能，因此除了要有優異之行政規劃能力外，更要具備超強之領導能力及經驗，以激發年輕研究人員在科學研究上有傑出之表現。

Academia Sinica, Taipei is seeking a distinguished scientist in the zoological field to serve as Director of the Institute of Zoology (IZ). The initial appointment is for a period of three years (renewable for a second term), and will also carry the title of Research Fellow.

IZ is located on the Academia Sinica campus in Nankang, east of cosmopolitan Taipei. Presently, the Institute is divided into three Divisions according to the interests of our research staff: The research areas in Division 1 include animal and microbial genetics, virology, cell biology and adaptation, and toxicology; in Division 2, integrative, comparative, and regulatory physiology; and in Division 3, taxonomy, ecology and biodiversity, and evolution biology. The Institute also runs a Marine Research Station in Yilan, Taiwan, and participates in the recently created National Laboratory for Genomics and Proteomics Research. Qualifications for the new Director include a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent); record of distinguished accomplishments in at least one of the above research areas; the ability to pursue a vigorous research program in one of these or related fields; and evidence of administrative ability and leadership potential. Resources will be available to reactivate the research program of the Director.

IZ is seeking an outstanding scholar with extensive experience in research management. The Director is responsible for directing and coordinating the diverse research activities of the Institute to ensure maximum integration and synergy. In addition to managerial and administrative skills, we are seeking a scientist with strong leadership qualities with experience to motivate young scientists toward the pursuit of excellence in scientific research.

調查研究工作室調查資料開放申請

調查研究工作室「學術調查研究資料庫」日前已將『居民對於在社區內增加土地使用類別的意願－以設立保齡球館為例』調查研究資料整理完成。這筆資料的計畫主持人為成功大學都市計劃系，林享博教授，計畫執行單位為成功大學都市計劃系，經費補助單位則為行政院國家科學委員會。目前開放申請中，歡迎國內外學術界人士多加以利用。

Discovering our campus plants

欖仁、小葉欖仁與菲律賓欖仁

這三種植物都是使君子科欖仁屬植物，亦是常見的庭園綠化植物及行道遮陰樹。欖仁廣泛被種植，部分成為歸化植物，其植物體耐鹽分，種子可依靠海漂及蝙蝠傳播，根及板根可製革，種仁可食。小葉欖仁的枝葉較欖仁的纖細，層傘狀之樹型相當優美，兩者在秋冬時樹葉落盡，別有一番風情。

These three species belong to combretum Combretum family, and are common ornamentals and street trees planted for shade and street trees. Indian almond, which is salt tolerant, is widely cultivated and naturalized in several regions of the world. It is salt-tolerant. The seeds can be are spread dispersed by the water and bats. Roots and bark are used for tanning. The kernels are is edible.

Compared to Indian almond, Madagascar?? almond has slender branchlets and smaller leaves. Both of them are deciduous in fall and winter.

This genus has about 150 species, distributed throughout tropics. In Taiwan there is only the present1 native species is native.
