A team from Biodiversity Research Center, Academia Sinica found that whole genome duplication enabled <em>G. gynandra<\/em> to undergo a C3-C4 intermediate stage, develop high vein complexity, evolve C4 enzyme genes and produce extra ATPs for CO2 concentration and finally evolved C4 photosynthesis.
