He was 89 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Han received his PhD in Electrical Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School (operated by the U.S. Navy), and upon returning home devoted himself to the advancement of Taiwan\u2019s defense technology. During his service at the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology from 1966 to 1995, Dr. Han served as director of the Hsiung Feng missile program, thereby making prominent contributions to the design and production of Taiwan\u2019s national defense weapons, and earning the title \u201cFather of the Hsiung Feng Missile\u201d. The Hsiung Feng I was the first domestically-produced missile made from scratch, which enabled Taiwan to accumulate invaluable experience in subsequent national defense research programs.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Han also served at the Chinese Naval College of Technology, National Chiao Tung University, National Taiwan University, and Yuan Ze University. Among his many scholarly accolades are the Academic Medal awarded by the Ministry of Education as well as the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Award for Academic Achievement. In 1964, Dr. Han won the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Awards, and in 1990 was elected an Academician of Academia Sinica.
