International Conference on Continuity and Changes in Families in East Asia, jointly hosted by the Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences (RCHSS) and Institute of Ethnology (IOE), Academia Sinica, will be held on March 24-25, 2023 in Taipei, Taiwan.

The theme of this conference is family development and changes in East Asian societies. In addition to oral presentation sessions, there will be keynote and forum sessions on household panel surveys. Dr. Dean Lillard (Ohio State University), the Director of Cross-National Equivalent File (CNEF), shall deliver the keynote speech. The CNEF, as the largest data harmonization platform for cross-national household panel surveys, has harmonized the survey data from nine national household panel surveys, and provided access to the harmonized data. The forum session shall introduce three important household panel surveys in East Asia, including the Japan Household Panel Survey (JHPS), the Korean Labor & Income Panel Study (KLIPS), and the Taiwan Panel Study of Family Dynamics (PSFD). Through the keynote and forum sessions, we hope to enhance comparative studies on families and households for East Asian societies.

This in-person conference is calling for research on families and household in East Asian societies, including but not limited to the following topics.
