Dr. James Lee received his Ph.D. from Princeton University, U.S., and subsequently held postdoctoral research positions at the European University Institute in Italy and the University of California, San Diego. His research areas are U.S. grand strategy, geoeconomics, and U.S.-Taiwan relations. His doctoral dissertation topic was the United States\u2019 role in the formation of the East Asian \u201cdevelopmental state\u201d at the beginning of the Cold War, especially the long-term impact of U.S. aid on Taiwan\u2019s planned economic system. <\/p>\n

Dr. Lee pursues research across multiple disciplines, including political science, history, law, and economics. A distinctive feature of his research is the analysis of contemporary issues from a historical perspective, such as comparing ancient Greek history and Cold War history to contemporary U.S.-China-Taiwan relations.<\/p>\n

Dr. Lee has been an assistant research fellow at the Institute of European and American Studies since August, 2022.<\/p>\n
